I played another concert in Uherské Hradiště one of my favorite towns in Czech Republic. The local organiser of the concert was Jozes Korvas (having a Hungarian name). He is such a nice person - he is the directos of the local cinema. I will get back soon Uherské Hradiště.

The evening concert was in a garden of the old town hall, perfect place for concerts.

I had a concert in Valašské Meziříčí during my Czech tour in Evangelický kostel (Evangelical church). Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic acoustics and very nice people. The priest was so cultured and spoke so many languages. He was nice guy I did two full-house concerts in his church playing Bach pieces during the 'Night of Museums' event.

I did my first concert in Czech Republic organised by KDK (Kulturní dům Kopřivnice) Culture House of Koprivnice. They invited Dominic Miller's Band as well to the same day 3rd June 2011. So I played first then Dominic Miller's Band played. They were so professional!!

His musicians were Mike Lindup (Level 42) piano, Nicolas Fiszman (Charles Aznavour, Kadja Nin) bass, Rhani Krija (Sting) percussion. After the concert we had a nice chat with Dominic, he was so nice. He respected my play I respected his play (of course, he was so good!!!). He loves Bach's music and told me that he would like to listen to me playing Bach. We went out from the bar sit down to play. I played E-major Praeludium then I asked him to play Fields of Gold because he played that song alone on his concert and that was so great, nice, wonderfull and professional!!!

Cultural mission to continue in Bohemia

Sándor Mester is setting off for a tour of fifty concerts in Bohemia. The first concert of the tour will be in the large hall of the Culture Centre (Kulturní dum) in Koprivnice before the concert by Dominic Miller Band on 3 June 2011.

Sándor Mester classical guitarist has been touring flung across the globe for several years. Since 2005 he has given more than five hundred concerts in eleven countries. Beside the performances in large concert halls in cities he often gives concerts both in tiny villages and small towns as well as in schools and music schools. He has given a vast number of concerts in Hungary, he stayed in Portugal giving concerts for a year and he also played concerts in the USA, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Rumania and Serbia. This year he has played a series of concerts named “Concert for the Roma” in disadvantaged villages in Hungary where the Gypsies constitute the overwhelming majority of the population, and he has given a series of concerts called “Bakfark-Bartók” in settlements in four countries populated by Hungarian minority.

This summer he is going to move to Bohemia for three months. As a grant holder of the International Visegrad Fund he is planning to play fifty concerts in Koprivnice and in the surrounding villages and small towns within the framework of the Visegrad Artist Residency Program (VARP). The receiving institution, the centre and the organizing base of the classical guitar series will be the Culture Centre in Koprivnice (Kulturní dum Kopřivnice).

„We are very honored that we can organize tour of Hungarian guitar virtuoso
MS3. We know that MS3 has performed with his guitar in many countries around
the world and we are delighted that this artist can be presented in our
region, the Czech Republic. I am convinced that this tour will help to
enhance cultural cooperation between Hungary and the Czech Republic, and
that's not on our side the last act of this kind.” - said Jaromír Naleraj Director of the House of Culture in Koprivnice.

The first concert of Sándor Mester’s tour in Bohemia will be in the Culture Centre in Koprivnice before Dominic Miller Band, at 8 p.m. on 3 June. (Dominic Miller has played with Sting since 1990, and he also tours with his own band.)

“I have adored, esteemed and enjoyed the Czech culture, literature and film art for very long time, that’s why I am looking forward to the three months I am going to spend in Bohemia. Even the arrangements have been made so smoothly with the team in Koprivnice. And playing before Dominic Miller is a privilege for any guitarist, regardless of the music genre,” said Sándor Mester.

Sándor Mester zahájí turné padesáti koncertů v České republice. První koncert tohoto turné se uskuteční v Kopřivnici dne 3. června 2011 ve velkém sále Kulturního domu, před vystoupením hudební skupiny Dominic Miller Band.

Sándor Mester, klasický kytarový virtuos již několik let koncertuje po celém světě. Od roku 2005 vystoupil na více než pěti stech koncertech v jedenácti zemích. Koncertuje nejenom ve velkých koncertních sálech a velkých městech, ale také v obcích, malých městech, ve školách a v hudebních školách. Hrál na mnoha koncertech v Maďarsku, po dobu 1 roku koncertoval v Portugalsku, vystoupil také v USA, Izraeli, Itálii, Maroku, Bulharsku, na Slovensku, na Ukrajině, v Rumunsku a v Srbsku. V tomto roce uskutečnil v Maďarsku pod názvem Concert for Roma sérii více než třiceti koncertů v sociálně vyloučených obcích s převážně romským obyvatelstvem a také sérii koncertů nazvanou Bakfark-Bartók ve čtyřech zemích na takových místech, kde žije maďarská menšina.

Letos v létě se na tři měsíce odstěhuje do Čech: v Kopřivnici a v okolních obcích a městech odehraje za podpory fondu International Visegrad Fund padesát koncertů v rámci programu VARP (Visegrad Artist Residency Program). Hostitelskou institucí, centrem a organizační základnou série akcí pro klasickou kytaru je Kulturní dům Kopřivnice.

virtuosa MS3. Víme, že MS3 se svou kytarou koncertoval již v mnoha zemích
světa a my jsme rádi, že tohoto umělce můžeme představit v našem kraji, v
České republice. Jsem přesvědčen, že toto turné přispěje k prohloubení
kulturní spolupráce mezi Maďarskem a ČR, a že to není z naší strany poslední
počin tohoto druhu.“ - řekl ředitel kulturního domu v Kopřivnici, Jaromír Naleraj.

První koncert českého turné Sándora Mestera se uskuteční 3. června ve 20.00 hodin před vystoupením hudební skupiny Dominic Miller Band v Kulturním domě v Kopřivnici (Dominic Miller doprovází od roku 1990 Stinga a koncertuje i se svou vlastní skupinou).

„Již dlouho jsem obdivovatelem, ctitelem a konzumentem české kultury, literatury a filmu, a proto netrpělivě očekávám tři měsíce, které strávím v Čechách. Přípravy s kopřivnickým týmem probíhaly hladce a hrát před vystoupením Dominica Millera je pro každého kytaristu – nezávisle na hudebním žánru – velká pocta!” – uvedl Sándor Mester.

Mester Sándor ötven koncertes turnéra indul Csehországba. A turné első koncertje Koprinvicében lesz 2011. június 3-án a Kultúr Ház (Kulturní dům) nagytermében a Dominic Miller Band koncertje előtt.

Mester Sándor klasszikus gitárművész évek óta turnézik szerte a világban. 2005 óta ötszáznál több koncertje volt tizenegy országban. A nagy koncerttermek, nagyvárosi koncertek mellett sokat játszik kis falvakban, kis városokban, iskolákban, zeneiskolákban. Rengeteg koncertet adott Magyarországon, 1 évig koncertezett Portugáliában, játszott továbbá az USA-ban, Izraelben, Olaszországban, Marokkóban, Bulgáriában, Szlovákiában, Ukrajnában, Romániában és Szerbiában. Ebben az évben adott egy több, mint harminc koncertből álló sorozatot Concert for Roma címmel Magyarországon olyan hátrányos helyzetű falvakban, ahol főleg cigány lakosság van, illetve egy Bakfark-Bartók elnevezésű sorozatot négy országban olyan helyeken, ahol magyar kisebbség lakik.

Idén nyáron három hónapra Csehországba költözik: Koprivnicében és környékén kis falvakban, kis városokban fog ötven koncertet adni az International Visegrad Fund ösztöndíjasaként a VARP (Visegrad Artist Residency Program) keretében. A klasszikus gitár sorozat fogadó intézménye, központja és szervező bázisa a koprivnice-i kultúr ház (Kulturní dům Kopřivnice).

„Nagyon örülünk, hogy megszervezhetjük MS3 klasszikus gitárvirtuóz turnéját. Tudjuk, hogy MS3 sok országban játszott már gitárján, ezért megtisztelő, hogy a művész a mi régiónkban is Csehországban is turnézni fog. Biztos vagyok benne, hogy a kulturális együttműködést Csehország és Magyarország között erősíteni fogja és bízom benne, hogy részünkről ez nem az utolsó ilyen eset lesz.” - mondta el Jaromír Naleraj Koprivnice-i Kultúr Ház igazgatója.

Mester Sándor csehországi a turnéjának első koncertje a Dominic Miller Band előtt lesz június 3-án 20.00 órakor Koprivnicében a Kultúr Házban (Dominic Miller 1990 óta játszik Sting mellett és saját zenekarával is turnézik).

„A cseh kultúrának, irodalomnak, filmeknek nagyon régóta vagyok rajongója, tisztelője és fogyasztója, ezért izgatottan várom azt a három hónapot, amit Csehországban fogok tölteni. A koprivnicei csapattal az előkészületek is gördülékenyen zajlottak, Dominic Miller előtt játszani pedig minden gitáros számára - műfajtól függetlenül - egy ajándék!” - mondta el Mester Sándor.

Sándor Mester (MS3), Hungarian classical guitar player will play in Sofia, Bulgaria

Sándor Mester played couple of hundreds of concerts around in Hungary from 2005. In 2008 Eszter Hajdu documentary director made a film about his tour in Romania. The socio-musico documentary was broadcasted on all the Hungarian state channels. From 2009 MS3 toured in several countries: he had plenty of concerts in Portugal, Hungary, Romania and he played in New York City, San Franciscoban, Napoli, Rabat (Morocco), Tel-Aviv and Bratislava. You can watch his videos and photos about his concert on his blog: ms3music.blogspot.com.

Sandor Mester's reperoir contains the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tarrega and Béla Bartók as well as the pieces by the Portuguese guitar legend Carlos Paredes. He will play at the church called 'Katedrala Szveti Josif' 12th December 2011 Sofia, Bulgaria.

There is a Portuguese Week in Budapest. We have a week in a cinema where we can watch Portuguese movies - including a documentary about Carlos Paredes !!! - as well as Portuguese week in a hypermarket where you can buy Portuguese foods and drinks.

... So, I played in the hypermarket last Tuesday 15 km from Budapest "just very close to the ham" - that was the wish of organisers ... :)

What did I play? I played Carlos Paredes of course!!!

... I am open-minded so I play everywhere they are asking me for...

I played in Hungary in 5 churches around the lake Balaton two weeks ago during the week-end. In Hungary I usually do 4-5 concerts or more if possible during Saturday-Sunday in churches.

Was great to play again around Balaton. You can see some nice pictures about the sunrise and sunset on the lake on this road-video. It is so nice there!! I love that!

I played in Coimbra in the city where Carlos Paredes the legend of Portuguese guitar was born. He was THE GENIUS of Portuguese guitar and Fado style. I played in a café Arte e Parte 200 meters from the house where Carlos Paredes was born.

It was my best interpretation of Verdes Anos. I played a lot on stage but it went best yesterday.

I played in Teatro Turim last Saturday. Nice, lovely ambient theatre in Benfica - district of Lisbon. I liked it very much.

Why do the videos look so "artistic"? Because somehow the recording of the pictures was not good enough so we had to put some effects on it... :) But the sound was great...

Fun and Jam Session in Napoli

When we were in Napoli after my concert we did a jam session playing mostly Italian songs with my great freind Luigi Caramielo (singing) and Gennaro Romano (guitarist of the band Letti Sfatti). Luigi is a writer, sociologist and journalist. We had so much fun playing together. In the meantime the women cooked and took spaghetti as well as wine on the table. Then we had a nice dinner together.

I had a concert in Napoli on last Sunday.

It was spontaneously organised by a friend of mine Luigi Caramiello who is a writer and sociologist living in Napoli. The concert was in the concert room of Hotel Costantinopoli 104. Very nice and romantic place for a concert. It was great. I played different pieces including Portuguese (Carlos Seixas, Carlos Paredes) and Hungarian music by Bela Bartok.

Isabel, Ruth é uma das actrizes portuguesas de teatro e cinema mais respeitadas. Recentemente integra o espectáculo Dramaticanto onde toca com o guitarrista clássico húngaro Sandor Mester. A primeira apresentação pública deste espectáculo será no dia 15 de Abril pelas 22h30 no Cabaret Maxime.

Isabel Ruth é uma artista versátil e talentosa, começou como bailarina tornando-se actriz por acaso. Após ter estudado no Royal Ballet School de Londres, Isabel fez o seu primeiro filme Verdes Anos realizado por Pedro Rocha em 1963. Verdes Anos que é hoje um dia um dos filmes mais significativos. Destaca-se também uma pequena participação do filme Oedipus King de Pier Paolo Pasolini (1967).
Fez perto de 50 filmes e trabalhou com Manoel de Oliveira entre muitos outros. Agora começa a sua carreira de poetisa, compositora e cantora, embora já escreva poemas e canções há 20 anos no entanto só agora os leva até aos palcos.

Em Outubro de 2008 Isabel Ruth conhece Sandor Mester também conhecido por MS3 um guitarrista clássico húngaro de Budapeste. Toca essencialmente no interior do país, em pequenas aldeias, igrejas, centros culturais e escolas na Europa de Leste. Trabalhou também em software musical entre 1998 e 2006 no projecto Digimpro que foi depois utilizado por nomes como Moby, Erasure ou Robbie Williams.

Sendor Mester toca música com centenas de anos, desde renascentista, a barroca, até a peças de Bela Bartok e Carlos Paredes. Toca sonatas do compositor barroco Carlos Seixas bem como composições e improvisações de sua autoria. Faz tournées por Portugal quase sempre com casas cheias, tocou para centenas de crianças de escolas secundárias (Elvas, Lourinhã, Setúbal), bem como em universidades (Évora e Coimbra) no Centro Cultural da Lourinhã ou na Igreja de Colares. Tocou também no Conservatório do Funchal, na Madeira. Em Lisboa, toca todos os meses no Tejobar.

Começaram a trabalhar como duo em 2008 e encontraram um reportório único e completamente novo para voz e guitarra clássica. O espectáculo baseia-se em músicas de Isabel Ruth e poemas em português, italiano e francês re-arranjados por Sandor Mester. Interpretam também algumas canções de Alain Oulmann, ou o poema “ Amantes de Novembro” de Alexandre O’Neill, Verdes Anos de Carlos Paredes ou algumas canções napolitanas.

Isabel Ruth one of the most respected actresses of Portuguese theatre and film recently came out a new show called Dramaticanto. She plays with a Hungarian classical guitarist Sandor Mester. First Dramaticanto show will be in Lisbon at 15th April 22.30h in Cabaret Maxime in Lisbon at Praça da Alegria 58.

Isabel is a versatile talented artist started as a ballet dancer then became an actress by chance. After having studies in the Royal Ballet School in London Isabel did her first movie in Lisbon 'Verdes Anos' in 1963 directed by Paulo Rocha. Verdes Anos became the most significant Portuguese movie of all times. She took a small part in the film 'Oedipus King' by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1967). She made close to fifty films. She worked with the director Manoel de Oliveira and lots of others. And she now she starts her poet, composer and singer carrier. She has been writing poems and songs for twenty years but never set them up for stage.

She met Sandor Mester (also known as MS3) Hungarian classical guitarist from Budapest in the October 2008. Sandor is the most active Eastern-European classical guitarist living in Lisbon. He playes mostly in coutryside in small villages in churches, cultural centres and in schools in Eastern-Europe. He was also working as a music software inventor 1998 - 2006 in Digimpro porject that was used by Robbie Williams, Erasure and Moby.

Sandor Mester MS3 plays music of 600 hundred years: from renaissence, baroque to the pieces by Bela Bartok and Carlos Paredes. He plays sonatas by the Portuguese baroque composer Carlos Seixas as well as his own compositions and improvisations. He is touring around in Portugal mostly full house concerts. He played for more then thousand kids in Portugal in secundary schools (Elvas, Lourinha, Setubal) at Evora and Coimbra university he played also in the cultural centre in Lourinha, in the chruch of Colares. He did concerts in Madeira island this January in Funchal Conservatório - Escola das Artes in Calheta Centro das Artes Casa das Mudas and played live at RTP Madeira. He goes to play in Tejobar every month in Lisbon.

They started to work as a duo in October 2008 and found out the way of a completely new and unique program for vocal and classical guitar. The show is based on Isabel Ruth's songs and poems in Portuguese, Italian and in French language re-arranged by Sandor Mester. They also play some songs by Alain Oulmann - the „father of Fado”. There is a well-known poem by Alexandre O'Neil "Amantes novembro". Oulmann composed music for this wonderfull poem he did for Isabel Ruth. This songs was not played before on stage. In Dramaticanto they play Isabel's first movie's soundtrack called „Verdes Anos” by Carlos Paredes and French chansons as well as some Napoletan songs.

The Dramaticanto show will be set up on stage first time Lisbon at 15th April 22.30h in Cabaret Maxime in Lisbon at Praça da Alegria 58.

I had a full house concert in Musea da Musica here in Lisbon. It was great! It went well the audience liked it very much I did one encore.

Valentine's Day in Hotel Folgosa Douro

... I had a concert last week at the Douro River (Rio Douro). That region is up at the North of Portugal, actually very far from Lisbon where we live.I played one hour three times, so it was a long play. They had a Valentine's Day party there. Romantic, nice, elegant - classical guitar music fits to that very much. The hotel was fantastic. Nice persons there, perfect food and wine. I ate bloody beef stake...

...Valley of Douro it is a wine producing area with lots of quintas where you can taste and buy high quality wines. Douro river region is amazing, it is great that I could get there. Our friend Belmira helped a lot to organise it.

Madeira Bela

I played in Madeida Island in Funchal and in Calheta.

I played a full-house concert in the Consarvatory in Funchal called Escola das Artes da Madeira run by Inês Costa Neves. She is a great school manager. She managed to get two articles in the two biggest daily paper of Madeira as well as a live performance in the program Lado a Lado at RTP Madeira. It was on last Thursday 21th January.

Next day I played in the cultural centre of Calheta which is at the other side of the island at Centro das Artes | Casa das Mudas. I played for kids. There were around two or three hundred I dont know exactly.

I was playing on a New Years Eve party in the wonderfull Sem Fim in Monsaraz which is in the Alentejo region very close to Spain. I played a lot there all together two hours.

I met a very good guy there. There was a rock-blus band plaing during the party and the bass player - he is an incredible musician - was trained in the USA by Jeff Berlin. His name is Sergio Juliao and we became friends. We were talking about music a lot.

... Last night I played in Tejobar. I just went there as usual. It was my third time there. My favorite place. You go there and I just play. It was Staruday night at 1:40 when I got there with my wife. It was full there was no place to sit down. All the videos were shot by Jorge Carlos Amaral de Oliveira - owner of Tejobar.

I am learning Portuguese repertoir. I started to learn pieces by Carlos Paredes. I am playing four pieces by him. In Tejobar I played Carlos Paredes: Verdes Anos that is a very famous Portuguese song.

There was a girl came to me asking "are you Sandor Mester?" yes I am - I said. "I am looking for musicians and I would like to play with you. Joao showed me your music in Fabula Urbis." Ok, lets play.

I played in Fabula Urbis last week. Nice and cute bookshop in Alfama district very close to Sé Chatedral - nicest chucrch of the world. Fabula Urbis has a small and very ambient concert room on the first floor.

I will play this Friday in Fabrica Braco de Prata. One of the best and coolest cultural centres in Lisboa. I practice a lot. I was in Budapest for a long weekend. I played on the 50th anniversary of the secondary school where I was studying.

I played in Monsaraz Yesterday night in Sem-Fim. It is an amazing restaurant with a view to Monsaraz castle has an unbelievable garden as well. Run by Tiago a dutch guy. Very much professional. Nicest restaurant with a galery. That rebuilt an old factory that became a restaurant. I played 3X1 hour there...
